R&B: 80 Years of No Respect” is listed among the videos promoted by the R&B Hall of Fame. The documentary highlights the hardships faced by early Black R&B artists — especially those working during the segregation era, when many toured on the so-called “Chitlin’ Circuit. It offers a historical perspective on how systemic racism, Jim Crow laws, and social injustices deeply affected the lives and careers of R&B musicians — many were barred from hotels, forced to eat in private homes or stay in segregated lodging, and often ended their lives unrecognized and impoverished.
